Overview


Gymkana's Saturday Gymnastics Program extends the philosophy of the University of Maryland Gymkana Troupe by providing an opportunity for boys and girls and now adults of all abilities to learn gymnastics, while stressing healthy, drug-free living. Our program provides an environment to learn and participate in gymnastics without the pressure of competition.

Each six week session is packed with recreation, fun and gymnastics that match your ability level from beginner to advanced. Our classes are taught by our enthusiatic and talented University of Maryland Gymkana Staff and Gymkana Team Members. We guarantee a fun, progressive learning environment in a state-of-the-art, well maintained and secure facility. It is our hope that you and your children will continue to grow in this positive learning environment.


Youth Classes


(9:00 - 9:55AM), (10:00 - 10:55AM), & (11:00 - 11:55AM) GymTots:

Boys & Girls Gymnastics (ages 5,6 & 7*)

The Gymkana GymTots class is for children ages 5, 6 and 7*. These students will be taught basic motor skills as well as elementary gymnastics according to their individual skill level. Instruction areas include basic tumbling, trampoline, and gymnastic apparatuses.

*Students age 7 who have prior gymnastic experience may enroll in the older children's classes with special permission.


(9:00 - 9:55AM) Youth Trampoline:

Boys & Girls Trampoline (Ages 8-16) Beginner - Advanced

The Gymkana Youth Trampoline class is a co-ed program for boys and girls ages 8-16. These students will be taught skills in trampolining and acrobatics. Trampoline, double mini trampoline, and mini-trampoline vaulting will be the focus of this program.


(10:00 - 10:55AM) Youth Gymnastics:

Girls Gymnastics (Ages 8-16) Beginner - Advanced

The Gymkana Girls Gymnastics class is a program for girls ages 8-16. These students will be taught gymnastics skills according to their individual ability levels. Instruction for this class will be focused around tumbling, vault, balance beam and uneven bars.



Boys Gymnastics (Ages 8-16) Beginner - Advanced

The Gymkana Boys Gymnastics class is a program for boys ages 8-16. These students will be taught gymnastics skills according to their individual ability levels. Instruction for this class will be focused around tumbling, vault, parallel bars, rings, pommel horse and high bar.


(11:00 - 11:55AM) Youth Tumblers:

Boys & Girls Tumbling (Ages 8-16) Beginner - Advanced

The increasing popularity of cheerleading, dance and gymnastics has led us to create a class focusing on elementary through advanced tumbling skills. The focus of this class will be teaching proper technique and improving all levels of tumbling, from basic to advanced, including handsprings, flipping and twisting motions.




Adult Classes



(9:00 - 9:55AM) Adult Gymnastics:

Men & Women (Ages 17+) - Beginner - Advanced

Gymnastics will improve performance in other sports, as well as overall fitness and functional strength. This class provides instruction on gymnastic apparatus, vault, and tumbling.


(10:00 - 10:55AM) Adult Trampoline:

Men & Women Trampoline (Ages 17+) - Beginner - Advanced

The Gymkana Adult Trampoline class is a co-ed program for adults interested in learning trampoline skills. This class will primarily provide instruction on trampoline and double mini trampoline.


(11:00 - 11:55AM) Choice Workout:

Youth & Adults (Ages 12 & up) - Beginner - Advanced

This session offers a unique practice experience that allows participants to work on the apparatuses and skills of their choice. Gymkana's instructors will assist in working with men's and women's gymnastics apparatuses, trampolines, and partner balancing skills. Tumbling instruction is NOT included in this session.


(11:00 - 11:55AM) Beginner Aerial Silks:

Adults (Ages 16 & up) - Beginner

This class is designed for students who have no to minimal aerial silks experience. This class will focus on basic climbing, footlock, slip knots, inversion skills, double footlocking and conditioning.


(12:00 - 12:55PM) Int-Adv Aerial Silks:

Adults (Ages 16 & up) - Intermediate/Advanced

This class will focus on more complex skills in footlocks, hipkeys, and various types of drops. During this session, students will have the ability to sequence aerial skills from the ground to the air. Prior experience is a must! Prerequisites for this class are consistent double footlocks and inversions from one climb in the air.

  • One 6-week program session: $150.00 Early registration ($160.00 regular price)
  • A participant registered for two or more programs - $135 early registration per program ($145 regular price)
  • Early registration rate expires 8/19/17

Gymkana is located in the Gymnastics Gym, room 1120, in the School of Public Health building of the University of Maryland, College Park. The street address is:

For FREE PARKING, the recommended parking area for Gymkana Saturday Program is the Terrapin Trail Parking Garage (Lot 6) located adjacent to the Xfinity Center. This parking garage is easily reached from University Blvd (rt. 193).

  • If you are coming westbound from Greenbelt, take the Xfinity Center entrance on to campus at Metzerott Road. Take the first right, then left. The Terrapin Trail Garage is located at the top of the hill next to the Xfinity Center.
  • If you are coming eastbound from Takoma Park, take the Terrapin Trail Garage entrance off of rt. 193, the next right after Stadium Drive.

The School of Public Health building, where we are located, is on the other side of the pedestrian bridge at the base of the garage.
